Beth H ([personal profile] bethbethbeth) will be overseeing the CON.TXT Raffle again this year, the proceeds of which are going to benefit two organizations:

* Wounded Warrior Project
* King Street Cats

Raffle tickets (a mere $2 each!) will be on sale at at the CON.TXT Registration Desk - and from the mobile raffle site (i.e., Beth's backpack) - starting on Thursday night (June 12th) and continuing until approximately noon on Sunday (June 15th).

All new, nearly new, or collectible items of a fannish or artsy nature will be gratefully received (you needn't be going to the con as long as we can find a way to coordinate delivery of your donations). Leave a comment to this Dreamwidth post or email Beth at bethbethbeth [at] gmail [dot] com) if you think you might have something to contribute, and remember that you can also participate by buying a few (or a few hundred!) tickets.

Note that raffle donations (like art and Orphan Marketplace items!) should go into the mail very soon if you will not be carrying them to CON.TXT yourself! (We need Orphan Marketplace items by next Friday, June 6th, and artwork by June 11th, the Wednesday before the con.)

Ducks Deluxe is an opportunity to display, buy, and sell fan-made art, crafts, and other unique items of fannish interest. If you've been bringing stuff to (and home from) "art shows" at slash cons for years, you probably know what we're getting at; if you're new to this, think of it as a fusion of an art fair in the park and etsy.com, with a little deviantART and (hopefully) a whole lot of slash tossed in for good measure.

We will be holding an art auction on Sunday morning for art on which multiple people bid; all of the art, including not-for-sale art, will be on display on Friday and Saturday.

If you're going to be mailing your art to CON.TXT, it needs to arrive by June 11th, so send it in now! (If you are bringing it to the con yourself, you have a little more wiggle room.)

If you're ready to submit your art, go to the 2014 Ducks Deluxe Arts & Crafts Show webpage and fill out an Entry Form to get started! If you have questions, don't hesitate to e-mail artsy@con-txt.net.

Here is the lowdown on the CON.TXT 2014 Ducks Deluxe Arts & Crafts Show and Auction:

If you need a little inspiration or if you work better with some direction, you could always visit our art prompt page....

Whatever you do, have fun, and go forth and be crafty! If you have friends who ought to know about CON.TXT and the Ducks Deluxe Arts & Crafts Show and Auction, please spread the word! If you have questions, don't hesitate to e-mail artsy@con-txt.net.

(The Fine Print: CON.TXT will charge a small commission on items that aren't sold for charity (the 2014 CON.TXT charity is TBD). If you would like to submit a portfolio and/or up to three not-for-sale pieces to display, there is a small fee for display space. You don't have to be a CON.TXT attending member to send us your stuff; use the link above to submit your art, and for instructions on where to send your items. In the happy event we are deluged with submissions, we might be forced to turn away some pieces. If we have to make choices, we'll respond to our membership: things that are slash-related or have elements or characters from popular slashy media are going to be more irresistible to the folks at CON.TXT, and we'll prioritize these above non-fandom-related pieces. We encourage submissions (heh) that are too explicit for viewing by children, violate copyright, or are judged to have libelous content in regard to known persons or well-known characters. At the discretion of the con-comm, items determined to have disturbing content may be displayed in such a way as to warn potential viewers.)

Attendees: Have you ever looked at the art featured in the Ducks Deluxe Arts & Crafts Show and Auction and wished your pairing was up there? Have you ever wondered what the pictures in your head would look like on canvas?

Artists: Want to know what bidders are looking for this year? Or maybe you're in need of inspiration?

Well, you're in luck! This year, in order to make Ducks Deluxe more interactive and targeted to our attendees, we've decided to open up art-specific prompting in a kind of "Big Bang" meets "Kink Meme".

This is how it will work: Anyone can leave a prompt for art. Prompts can be as specific or as vague as you want them to be, and you can leave as many prompts as you like. We just ask that each prompt be a separate comment, to make it easier for artists to find ideas. Please prompt HERE on the Dreamwidth post!

Artists are then free to browse the prompts, stake a claim, and make some art. Once your masterpiece is complete, we'd like each artist to print, mat and submit the end result to our art show. These pieces can be put up for auction like any other art in the show; prompters don't get dibs on the artwork itself, but if it turns out exactly as you imagined it, maybe you'll want to bid on it!

You don't have to be an attendee to submit prompts or to make art, but you do have to be an attendee to bid on and/or purchase the finished products submitted to Ducks Deluxe.

So if you have friends who would love to play along, please spread the word! If you have questions, don't hesitate to leave a comment, or you can send an e-mail to artsy@con-txt.net.
