[Sports RPF, esp Hockey] Description: Over the past decade, RPF - which used to be almost universally reviled - has become both ore mainstream and more popular within fannish circles...and with good reason, for there are many things to love about RPF. However, in recent years we've also see some pretty ugly revelations about some of the objects of our fannish interest (hockey's Patrick Kane being one of the most prominent examples). Let's talk about what we love about RPF, but also about the difficulties of loving a fandom that all-too-often seems to be just one small step away from the next soul-crushing news story about one of our faves.
Other notes: While this panel was originally proposed to focus solely on Sports RPF, I suspect many of the issues we'll be raising will apply equally to non-Sports fandoms, so even if you have less-than-no-interest in sports, join us and add your voice!
