To celebrate our tenth anniversary, we're flashing back to the due South fandom with a t-shirt specially designed for CON.TXT!

Artist Aimee Fleck's hand-lettered design features the quote "There's red ships and green ships, but there's no ships like partnerships" (said by Kowalski to Fraser in the last episode of due South) in white ink on CON.TXT's signature purple shirt.

dark purple t-shirt with white text: "There are red ships and green ships, but there's no ships like partnerships."

We will be accepting pre-orders HERE for ONE WEEK only! Then, collect your shirt at the con.

Shirts are 100% cotton, short-sleeved Hanes tagless tees. Sizes run S through 6X, as described on the Hanes size chart:

Hanes Sizing Chart

Pre-orders will close at 5 p.m. on TUESDAY, JULY 12. There may be a few extras for sale at the Orphan Table at the Fan Fair on Saturday, July 29th, but we can only guarantee you a shirt if you pre-order!

Shirts are $20 each, payable in cash at CON.TXT's registration desk; the proceeds will support the con. For reasons that don't need exploring at this juncture, we will not be taking pre-payments. There's no need to go to Chicago on the trail of your father's killer, but you will need to come to CON.TXT to collect and pay for your shirt!

We hope you'll be excited to support CON.TXT while giving a nod to a classic fandom in our exclusive shirt!

And don't forget, only two more days to register for the con! After Thursday, you'll have to register at the door and pay an extra $5.

Here are some cocktail examples to inspire your creativity! )

Your drink could be anything from a cleverly-renamed classic to a diabolical fannish concoction. Make a pun, honor your most beloved fandom, or claim bragging rights for sharing a delicious cocktail with the entire con! Email us at info@con-txt.net with your ideas by midnight on July 9th!

Beth H [personal profile] bethbethbeth will be overseeing the CON.TXT Raffle again this year, the proceeds of which are going to benefit Planned Parenthood.

Raffle tickets will be $2 for 1, $10 for 6 (#HamForSix), or $20 for 13. They will be on sale at at the CON.TXT Registration Desk and from the mobile raffle site (i.e., Beth's backpack) from Thursday night (July 28th) until approximately 7:30 pm on Saturday (July 30th).

If you're not coming to the con yourself, you can send items along with a friend, or ship them to the con. This year's schedule of panels and activities is ready and you can see it on the CON.TXT website now. Thanks to all our fantastic panel mods who have volunteered! We'd like to highlight a few things that we're excited about this year:

• With the new hotel, we have more panel rooms, which means more excellent content! (and yes, probably more hard choices to make for you)
• Since the Do It Yourself panel slots have been very popular in the past, we are offering 16 DIY panel slots this year. We will have more info about how to sign up for them in July.
• If you've been frustrated in the past when a panel is just not long enough, you'll be happy to know this year we will have some 85 minute panels. We will also have some double rooms open for the more popular fandoms to make sure everyone gets a seat.

So go take a look at the schedule and start planning out your weekend!

While you're doing that, we want to hear from you! Our What Are You Fannish About Right Now? Poll is open until June 30 for you to tell us about what fandoms are currently your jam, your jelly, and the butter on your toast, so we can make sure the panel room sizes and decor in the Upsuite and Downsuite are done with your favorites in mind.

We have a few more need-based scholarships available, so if you're still thinking about coming to CON.TXT but aren't sure you can afford the membership fee, please contact us.

There is also a scholarship available through Con or Bust, which helps people of color/non-white people attend SFF conventions.

If you want to apply for our need-based scholarships or the Con or Bust scholarship, the deadline for both is June 15th, so don't delay!

If you haven't reserved your hotel room for CON.TXT yet, don't delay! Our special room rate is only available until July 7th. The details and information on our hotel is available on our website here.

There are two things in particular we'd like to update you on:

** When booking your room on the hotel's website, you might see that the menu only offers you the option of 1 person per room for the King Studios. Don't worry, more than one person can stay in the King Studio rooms! It's just a programming bug. You can add people during check-in, or if one of your roommates might check in before you just be sure to call the hotel and give them their name.

** The D.C. Metro system is undergoing extensive track work this summer, which may impact people traveling to the hotel by public transportation. The Blue Line, which services the nearest Metro stop to the hotel, is not scheduled for work during the con. Sometimes delays affect the whole system, so you may want to allow extra travel time when using Metro.

Also, don't forget to check out our room sharing and ride sharing posts!

We’ve changed the way we’re hosting dealers at CON.TXT this year. We’ve made it easier than ever to sell your work at the con, and we want to invite you to participate. You can do this in three ways:

1. To sell your items to your fellow con-goers yourself, you can sign up for a table at the Fan Fair, a 3-hour bazaar on Saturday afternoon. If you make fanart, jewelry, fiber crafts, wearable items, zines, or other items with geek appeal, we’d love to have you. We’re also interested in vintage zines, action figures, and other kinds of memorabilia. If you’re not sure whether your goods are right for the Fan Fair, check in with us at artsy@con-txt.net before signing up. A full table costs $20 for con members (including day members) and $30 for nonmembers; half-tables are $10 for con members and $20 for nonmembers.

2. If you don’t want your own table at the Fan Fair, you can sell your items via the Orphan Table. Twenty percent of sales will support the con, with the rest going to you. (No items priced under $5, please.)

3. You can submit your fanart, textile art, and other items to the Silent Art Auction. Twenty percent of the proceeds will help support the con, with the rest going to you.

You can sign up for the Fan Fair by emailing artsy@con-txt.com with the following information:

1. Your name
2. Your badge name, if you are attending the con
3. What size table you want (full or half)
4. A one-sentence description of what you’re selling
5. A link to your wares (business website, Etsy, DeviantArt, etc.), if and only if you would like it to be included in con announcements and promotions (emails, our website, the con program)

The deadline to register for the Fan Fair is July 15. Thank you for considering our invitation! If you have questions or concerns, or would like to submit items to the Orphan Table or Silent Art Auction, please get in touch with us at artsy@con-txt.com!

We are happy to announce that The Minotaur Scholarship, which is a memorial scholarship given to someone coming to their first CON.TXT, has been awarded to KateKintail. Congrats! We look forward to seeing you!

We have also awarded four need-based scholarships, and we'd like to thank everyone who has donated because it allowed us to bump partial scholarships up to full ones.

Those of you who have been to CON.TXT before may remember seeing images of all our favorite characters and actors on screens while you were shaking your tailfeathers during Disco Duck! Well, this year we're looking to add some new faces to our slideshow, and we'd love to hear your suggestions!

Please comment with links to up to FIVE large, high-quality images (they'll be projected onto a screen, so they need to look good when blown up!), and please give us whatever info you have on the person or people depicted (actor, character, and/or show). No fanart, please, but photos, screencaps, and official art are all welcome!

If you have a link to a good source for pictures, that would be helpful, too (and there's no limit on sources, send us as many as you have)!

We may not be able to use all of your submissions, but please consider helping us change things up with some new images!

And don't forget to go suggest three songs that make you want to dance!

We still have some panels that need more moderators. Please take a look at this list and then e-mail us at panels@con-txt.net

This first panel was pretty popular in the voting, but at this point we don't have anyone lined up to mod it. Unfortunately, that means it might not make the final cut. So if you're interested, please let us know!

The Spies We Love (Multi-fandom)

A panel for classic, new, and rebooted spy fandoms. Come talk about Agent Carter, Bond, Kingsman, Person of Interest, Man from U.N.C.L.E., Mission: Impossible, Archer, The Americans, Turn, and others. What do we love, who do we ship, what should we be watching, what do we want more of, and what do we never want to see again?

These panels have at least one mod, but would like to have more:

Be an AO3 Power User (How-to)

Current mod: melannen
Looking for: Anyone

How do you tag on AO3? How do you filter results? How do you run an exchange, or use collections, or bookmarks? What are the best ways to get help or offer suggestions? How do things work behind the scenes? How do AO3's technical limitations affect the Archive's features? Tips, tricks, toys, links, and so on.

Is It Different for Girls? (Meta)

Current mod: zvi
Looking for: Anyone

Many popular tropes from m/m fic (mpreg, ABO, bdsm-verse, Rule 63) are plays on sex, gender, and power. How do they play out differently in femslash?

Sufficiently Advanced Pornography (Is Indistiguishable From Magic) (Meta)

Current mod: zvi
Looking for: Anyone

We read and write a lot of sex set in science fiction or fantasy settings, and yet a lot of it still uses the same old sexual positions and sex toys. Let's go beyond convenient nanoprophylactics and lube spells and talk about how everything from antigravity to magic wands to the Force can be brought into the bedroom as well as the plot.

Team Family Home: A Found Family Panel (Meta)

Current mod: Melusina
Looking for: anyone

The found family trope is a staple of many fandoms (and their canons!). What is it, and why is it so great? Let's discuss the packs, crews, teams, bands, squads, etc. of our hearts.

A Walking Tour of Hell's KItchen, (Multi-Fandom)

Current Mod: Lily (enviropony)
Looking for: anyone, but especially with knowledge of the comics

Let's take a trip to Hell's Kitchen! We'll chat about Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and Netflix's take on The Defenders. Love the current Netflix series? Want to speculate wildly about the upcoming ones? Are you a fan of the comics and want to rave about them? Come join us! This will NOT be a spoiler-free zone.

Book Fandoms (Multi-fandom)

Current mod: ambyr
Looking for: anyone

You've read the book, now see the movie...Wait, there is no movie. How do we handle fandoms with no visual source? How important is it that fanfiction match the writing voice to the canon? How do you find references and inspiration for fanart for an all-text canon? How do you promote your canon when you can't fall back on "they're pretty!"? And what do you do when there suddenly is a movie or TV show, and its fandom dwarfs that of the original work?

Small Fandom Speed Dating (Multi-fandom)

Current mod: Sanj
Looking for: anyone

Small Fandom Speed Dating is back! Looking for a Yuletide fling? Tired of being a fandom of one? Come play the fandom dating game, where we set fans up with the fandoms of their dreams.

All I Wanna Be Is Someone Who Gets to See a Giant Woman (Single Fandom)

Current mod: Holli
Looking for: Anyone

So why do the people of this world believe in Garnet, Amethyst, and Pearl (and Steven)? How do the underlying themes of decency and growing up support the overarching plot of intergalactic war?

Everything Doctor Who (Single Fandom)

Featuring past companions in Doctor Who and who should be the new companion. And can we get a female Doctor or Doctor of Color (DOC)?

The following panels have one moderator already, so if you join them you can decide amongst yourselves whether anything should be updated. We'll put you in touch if you're not familiar with each other already.

I'm on Team Everybody Being Friends: Avengers Fandom Post-Civil War. (Single Fandom)

Current Mod: Fairestcat
Looking For: Anyone

Let's take stock of Avengers fandom post Captain America: Civil War. What's up with all our favorite characters? Where's the great fic and meta and fanart? This panel is for fans of all characters and pairings to squee, flail, cry, or otherwise emote together.

Imperial Radch (Single Fandom)

Current Mod: Melannen
Looking for: anyone

Anaander Miaanai is personally concerned about our chosen topics of discussion.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens - Stormpilot FTW! (Single Fandom)

Current mod: ktnb
Looking for: Anyone

Let's have a Poe/Finn lovefest and celebrate all the things that made their chemistry so delicious! And if we are so moved: bonus discussion of the hot, adorkable weirdos named Oscar Isaac and John Boyega!

If you're looking for someone to share a ride to or from the con with, here's the place!

You can comment with requests like "I'm driving from New York on Thursday morning in a van with three people, and we're looking for a fourth to split gas and tolls," or "I'm getting into Dulles Airport on Thursday afternoon and hoping someone would give me a lift to the hotel."

For hotel room sharing, please use the Room Sharing Post.

Are you looking for someone to share a room at the con with? Let your fellow congoers know!

Comment with requests like "I reserved a double and looking to split with someone who respects afternoon naps" or "I'm part of a big but odd-numbered group and I promise to keep the parties in one of the other rooms."

(Don't forget to exchange legal names or set up a meeting in the lobby to avoid that awkward "uh, I don't know what name she used, but she might have checked in?" dance at the front desk!)

If you need help making hotel reservations, please contact us by email at info@con-txt.net!

For ride sharing requests, please use the Ride Sharing Post!
